LAREDO, Tx.- The 93 soldiers of the Bravo Company will enjoy Thanksgiving in company of their relatives in the city, before they take off to Iraq and Afghanistan in the upcoming weeks.

They traveled from the military base in El Paso to Laredo in a charter airplane, which was financed by the monies collected from the different activities their relatives and a group of volunteers did.

"We are very happy and thankful with the community, because it is thanks to their donations and help that we are here for four days with our families before leaving to Iraq," soldier Juan Gonzalez, mentioned at his arrival to the local airport.

Mayor Raul Salinas and his wife Yolanda, County Judge Danny Valdez, and Sheriff Martin Cuellar, all made a special trip to El Paso to pick up the Laredo soldiers and bring them home.

At the airport the soldiers were received by State Representative Richard Peña Raymond, and governor candidate Farouk Shami, as well as by dozens of friends and relatives; they were all received like true heroes.

Personnel from the Police Department and the Sherriff's and Constable's office were in charge of escorting the three El Metro buses that took the soldiers straight to the Casa Blanca Ballroom, where they were going to be welcomed with a party and a special dinner.

"We are impressed right now, it is just very difficult to see how these brave soldiers will only be here for some days and then they will part to carry out very difficult and dangerous missions for our country," Mayor Salinas mentioned.

He also took the time to thank the efforts and collaboration of the community for taking care of the travel expenses of these 93 soldiers, who thanks to the community's efforts they will enjoy the holidays with their loved ones.

Judge Danny Valdez also thanked the generous people of Laredo for making this trip for the soldiers possible.

At the airport Farouk Shami, candidate to Texas governorship, greeted the soldiers individually and wished them the best of lucks for their next trip to Iraq.

The millionaire made a generous donation to cover the trip's expenses, and he came directly from Houston to receive the 93 soldiers.
