LAREDO, Tx.- Up until yesterday, Martha Zulema Navarro's family was uncertain of having a Thanksgiving meal. They were saddened by the severe economic crisis that affected the entire nation, and the little money they had earned would be used to cover other necessities such as unpaid bills.

Nonetheless, regardless of the adversities Martha and her family never lost the hope that someone would extend a helping hand.

When Martha Zulema received the turkey in her hands, she was pretty thrilled, and with a big smile on her face she gave thanks on behalf of her daughter Jessica and her son in law and her five grandchildren, plus another one that is on his way.

"I real want to thank Judge Liendo, I thank her for her kindness, because of that we will be able to have a Thanksgiving dinner and my grandchildren will enjoy a delicious turkey like many other families will," she said.

In addition to the turkey, Martha Zulema received all the ingredients needed to cook the turkey and the rest of the products that accompany this dish, such as corn, green beans, mashed potatoes, corn bread and pumpkin pie.

For over 20 years Judge Liendo collects donations to make a special fund to help needy families in the community, especially those in the west part of Laredo, where she was born and grew up.

"This is a way of giving back to the community for what I have received all along my career, these are families that really need a lot of help, especially during these times of crisis," Judge Liendo concluded.
