LAREDO, Tx.- The City Forming delegation will leave this Sunday on a seven day trip to visit seven countries in Central America, where they will meet two of these nation's presidents and high ranking officials, with the aim of attracting investment to Laredo.

Mayor Raul Salinas made a last minute decision of not being part of the delegation travelling to Central America, there will only be administrative staff from the local government attending, as well as city council member Cindy Liendo Espinoza.

City Manager Carlos Villarreal mentioned this is the time to go out and look for businesses that can come to Laredo and invest, because he is convinced that the economic crisis can only be attacked with an aggressive work strategy.

The group will leave Laredo on Sunday November 29th; they will be visiting Guatemala first, where they already have a confirmed business meeting with President Alvaro Colom.

On December first the group will part to El Salvador and they will meet with their Commerce Minister, as well as with businessmen from the country; after that they will be visiting Honduras, with the same purpose.

For December 3rd they will stop in Managua, Nicaragua and travel that same day to San Jose, Costa Rica. The day after they will meet with Costa Rica's President Oscar Arias.

The work tour will conclude on December 6 with a visit to Panama and they will return home on the 8 th .

"We believe this will be a very productive trip for our community, because we are going to look for new business investments that can come to Laredo and create more jobs," Villarreal mentioned.

He also pointed out that Congressman Henry Cuellar is supporting this effort they are making, by contacting the diplomatic missions of these countries so they can program the work meetings for the Laredo delegation.

Villarreal stated that the main plan is to attract more commercial opportunities to Laredo, taking advantage of the free trade agreement that the U.S. has with Central America, called the Central America Free Trade Agreement or CAFTA.
