Wisin y Yande ''Los Vaqueros: El Regreso'' Tour (1/28/2011)
By: Yanira Resendez, The Laredo Sun
This year six Laredoans were selected from hundreds of contestants to join the Blue Knights Percussion Ensemble for the Drum & Bugle Corps. Unfortunately for one member, this year is his last opportunity to play with the Blue Knights.
Joshua Flores, who has been drumming for the past five years, will show off his mad skills this summer marching across the nation entertaining crowds and improving his talent as a musician.
This will be his first and final year since he recently turned 21, which is what they call “age-out” and are no longer able to participate.
The Blue Knights Drum and Bugle Corps is an elite group based out of Denver, Colorado known for their interpretations of classical music, renowned choreography and embarking on ingenious tours each summer.
“I saw the drum line playing a warm-up called, “Square Push,” said Joshua about what attracted him to join the Blue Knights.
“Ever since I heard them play that, I wanted to audition. The following year I auditioned for the Blue Knights and got called back to the following camp in Denver, Colorado.”
However, being selected for the Blue Knights is quite expensive. Joshua has to get as many sponsors, contributions or donations to raise $2,100 for membership fees and extra funds for housing and food during the tour.
“I plan on improving my musicianship, develop leadership skills, and strengthen my self discipline,” explained Joshua about what he plans to accomplish during this summer.
“I will be representing Laredo by being one of the very few individuals that are selected to be part of such an elite group.”
The theme for this years show will be English Folk Songs and Joshua is still looking for sponsors to not only help with his expenses but also represent the talent in Laredo.
For more information or to become a sponsor you can contact Joshua at 956-319-7878 or via email at xpandas@gmail.com
To Joshua and the other Laredoans participating in the tour this summer, best of luck!
