Laredo, Tx .- Rosaura "Wawi" Tijerina, Commissioner of Precinct Two, said it is urgent to have a head in this department because it is very important to address the protection of rural areas.
Jerry Arizola was the head of this department until September when he was forced to resign because he could not certify to the state his leadership abilities to the fire service.
Arizola worked for a year to form and train a group of firefighters and acquire the necessary equipment to provide fire protection in rural areas of Webb County.
However, Texas state law requires that the director must be certified and Arizola was unable to do this and was asked to resign.
Since its release in September, there has been an interim basis by Rick Flores and Jose Rangel, both because they are experienced firefighters for many years in the city of Laredo.
Tijerina said at Monday’s session that on January 9, 2012, three interviews will be held for the vacant position of fire chief.
Candidates for the guidance of senior firefighters and emergency services are Rick Flores, Rick Rangel and Felix Nuñez.
