Local authorities are ready to receive more than 100 thousand paisanos, whom are expected to arrive this week.

"We are ready to receive them, we have established a plan together with the Mexican Consulate General in Laredo, with the Police Department, the Sherriff's Office, the Bridge System and the Customs Port of Laredo, as well as with the Texas Department of Transportation and Nuevo Laredo authorities, in order to assist the paisanos," Salinas mentioned.

The first part of the project is to install an information booth to receive the pasianos, which will be located on mile 13 of highway 35. The information booth will be up from December 18 through the 20 th .

"We will open at 12 noon on the 18th and end at noon time on Sunday the 20 th ," Blasita Lopez, Director of the Visitors Bureau and Convention Center of Laredo mentioned.

At this booth paisanos will be able to receive information regarding the requirements to import their vehicles into Mexico, either temporarily or permanently, and about the merchandises they can cross into Mexico.

Here the paisanos will also be able to obtain information regarding hotels, restaurants, and the customs laws they have to comply with once they return from Mexico, as well as a list of businesses that import vehicles, and know about Mexican regulations.

"We are also going to have a mechanic at the information booth, who is volunteering to provide this service to the paisanos," Mayor Salinas mentioned. On the other hand, Mexican Consul General in Laredo, Miguel Angel Isidro emphasized that the objective is to give the paisanos a warm welcome and facilitate their travel into Mexico, as most as possible.

City Councilman in Nuevo Laredo, Guadalupe Bautista, mentioned that Mayor Ramon Garza Barrios already has a plan to move traffic going southbound and northbound as soon as possible.

On the other hand, the Texas Department of Transportation will put up messages on the highways to provide the paisanos with information.

Mario Maldonado, Director of the Bridge System in Laredo mentioned that Colombia International Bridge will open 24 hours from December 18 th to the 24 th , for traffic going into Mexico, and he added that there will be a special route for AVI users at International Bridge II.
