Law enforcement in Laredo and surrounding communities will receive a boost in certified peace officers, thanks to 13 graduating Laredo Community College cadets who have passed the state certification exam.

The cadets, members of the A-12 basic peace officer class, were honored at a graduation ceremony hosted by the South Texas Border Regional Police Academy on Thursday, May 24 in the William N. “Billy” Hall Jr. Student Center at the South Campus.

All 13 cadets took the Texas Certified Law Enforcement Officer State Examination (TCLEOSE) exam and achieved a passing score, making them Texas-certified peace officers.

The graduating class includes Nancy G. Castillo, Julio C. Cavazos, Gregorio de la Cruz III, Emanuel Diaz, Christina Flores, Bradley J. Holden, Adrian Lopez, Cristina Quintanilla, Alonzo Ramirez, Arturo Sanchez, Deborah Sepulveda, Jaime L. Vasquez, and Daniel Villarreal Jr.

“The Academy Class of A-12 has been very passionate and dedicated about succeeding in their law enforcement endeavor. As they prepare to transition to the arduous real world application of policing, we pray that they stay grounded and focused on the code of ethics and mission of policing in today’s society,” program director Donald Hale said.

In order to be admitted to the LCC Police Academy, participating cadets must be sponsored by a law enforcement agency.

The agencies that sponsored the cadets included the Laredo Police Department, Webb County Constable Precincts 2 and 4, the Zapata County Sheriff’s Office, and the Jim Hogg County Sheriff’s Office.

Several cadets were singled out with special awards, including the Iron Eagle Award, which was created to honor the top overall student in memory of the late Captain Ricardo Acosta, who was a longtime trainer and academy instructor.

This year’s recipient of the Iron Eagle Award is Gregorio de la Garza III

Also presented during the graduation ceremonies were the Academic Achievement Award to Bradley J. Holden, the Cadet Mentor Award to Emanuel Diaz, and the Top Gun Award to Arturo Sanchez.
