Canales and a group of colleagues conducted various activities including a bowling tournament to raise money for the purchase of window fans that will be very useful to the arrival of the intense heat . " We are grateful to the community for the support they gave us ," Canales said , referring most notably to an event called "Keep cool to our veterans." The fans were handed over to Gigi Ramos , director of Volunteer Service to the Needy , a nonprofit organization that began operations in this county in July 2009 , supporting veterans and their families.
"These people deserve the help because one day they risked their lives for us, giving us the nation we now have," the commissioner said . Ramos said the fans will be given to people who truly have a need because they lack air conditioning .
