LAREDO, TX. - Pedro Palacios, 36, appeared before Federal Magistrate Diana Song Quiroga, to plead guilty of stealing 63 checks totaling $225,385.
The report of the Federal Prosecutor said Palacios was hired by his father-in-law, who is treasurer of the Border Patrol Union Council Local 2455 to repair a computer that was failing.
Palacios used this opportunity to steal the checks and forge signatures on more than 60 checks. He deposited them electronically suing cell phone software from July 23 to November 29, 2011.
Last month Palacios was indicted in federal court after pleading guilty in Laredo and now awaits sentencing, which may be up to five years in prison.
