Students interested in finding their future at Laredo Community College now have a unique opportunity to fulfill all their registration needs at one time and in one place with the added opportunity to receive the state-mandated meningitis vaccine free of charge.

On Saturday, June 30 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., students planning to attend LCC for summer session 2 or the Fall 2012 semester are invited to attend the Enrollment Open House on the first floor of Memorial Hall at the Fort McIntosh Campus.

Students can take advantage of extra academic advisors, along with extra financial aid staff, who will be on hand to help students out with any questions they may have related to admissions, registration, orientation, and financial aid.

In addition, the college also will be offering free meningitis vaccines to the first 200 LCC students who come in that day who need and qualify for the vaccine.

All fees for the vaccines, which can range in price from $65 to $145, are being underwritten by the Guadalupe and Lilia Martinez Foundation.

In order to receive the vaccine at no cost, students must be registered for either summer session 2 or for the Fall 2012 semester, and they must demonstrate a financial need by completing the financial aid application at LCC.

Students receiving any scholarship or financial aid in any amount will qualify to receive the vaccine at no cost.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for students to take care of the vaccine, advisement and registration, and they can even apply for financial aid.

We will have plenty of staff on hand to see to all of their needs,” said Dr. Vince Solis, LCC vice president for student services.

The vaccines are available on a first-come, first-served basis, so students are urged to come early.

Students who do not wish to receive the vaccine can apply for an exemption. For more information on applying for an exemption, visit www.laredo.edu/meningitis to obtain more information on how to apply, as well as to learn more about the vaccine and meningitis.
