Operation Lone Star, which took place in this area for the sixth consecutive year, was held at Lincoln-Juarez Elementary in the town of Rio Grande south of Laredo.
Dr. Hector Gonzalez, director of health department in Laredo, thanked the great work of the military forces of Texas and all the volunteers who participated.
He thanked the following organizations who supported this event: Laredo Health Coalition, Baptist Services for Children and Families, STCADA, Ministries of Mercy, Methodist Health Ministries, South Texas Food Bank, Ruth B. Cowl, and others.
"We want to give special thanks to the mayor of Rio Bravo, Nora Rivera, County Judge Danny Valdez, Zapata’s judge, Joe Rathmell, and the school superintendents for UISD and Zapata for providing facilities for the program," he said.
Lone Star serves a dual purpose for providing free health services to the community, and serves as training for the military in emergency situations where they are forced to set up a mobile medical clinic.
