LAREDO, TX. – Laredo police seized more than a ton of marijuana on the 1100 block of Lafayette St.

At 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday, an officer stopped a vehicle with two people on board for a routine investigation. One man managed to escape. Driver, Jose A. Banda, 19, was arrested.

The subject was found with three bags of marijuana, a total weight of two pounds.

Police officers arrived and initiated an investigation.

The second man, still unidentified, escaped the block 3500 block of Flores. During the chase, someone opened the door to their apartment in the same block, where officers noticed a number of packages on a kitchen table.

After a closer examination, more packages were found in the wardrobe of a bedroom. Sixty packages were found for a total of 2,285 pounds of marijuana with an estimated street value of $962,000.
