LAREDO, TX. – Assistant Chief Patrol Agent, Roberto Santos, welcomed the agents and family to this special ceremony where seven Border Patrol Agents have joined the Laredo Sector Horse Patrol program.By: Special to The Laredo Sun
“These agents work in arduous conditions, long hours patrolling the border, and caring for these horses is truly a labor of love,” said Santos.
The Laredo Sector Horse Patrol currently has eighteen horses. Most of the horses have been named by local elementary students. During the four week program, agents learned advance riding techniques.
The horses were obtained through the U.S. Department of Interior Bureau of Land Management’s Wild Horse and Burro Program. The horses were trained by inmates at a Colorado correctional facility under the Wild Horse Inmate Program.
The Laredo Sector Horse Patrol was re-established in January 2010 and has made a distinct and positive impact on Border Patrol operations in Laredo.
