Green and Blue Santa Give Away Happiness

LAREDO, Tx.- The Border Patrol's Green Santa made its yearly official stop yesterday to deliver over 100 gifst to the children of Villa Alegre Day Care, which is part of the Head Start Program of Webb County.

A siren could be heard afar from the classroom, and as it approached the classroom the wooden floor trembled and the intensity of the sound began to decrease, until it silenced completely and the kids could only hear the HO HO HO sound of Santa's joyful laugh! But this time it just wasn't any Santa, it was a Santa Claus dressed up in green with a huge bag of presents.

Then you could only hear the noise of applauses, screaming and laughter and the voices of children say "Santa! Santa!". In just two weeks the Border Patrol of Laredo has repeated this scene more than 10 times, delivering joy to the different daycares of Webb County.

The Border Patrol Agents have mentioned they cannot compare the joy they feel when they see and hear the children's joy to anything in the world; it was worthwhile looking up for the funds and donating part of their salaries to fill bring some happiness into the lives of these kids who need it the most.

It just 15 days approximately one thousand children have received a toy, a present from the hands of the agents led by Chief Robert L. Harris of the Laredo Sector.

Moreover, Blue Santa, from the local police department also delivered over 4,000 presents these past days, thanks to the help of the helicopter of the State's Department of Public Safety.

The Community Relations Unit of the Department of Public Safety accompanied Blue Santa to visit the different local hospitals and clinics to carry joy and a present to the children that are sick.

Police Chief Carlos Maldonado also visited the hospitals accompanying Blue Santa when he arrived in a State Police's helicopter at the Police Department's esplanade, where more than 3,000 children were waiting.

It has now been over 10 years that Blue Santa carries out this noble mission, which has brought joy to the lives of many children in need.
