Local Government to Invest in the Environment

LAREDO, Tx.- The local government will receive up to one million dollars from federal funds to invest in ecological measures to invest in the environment.

The federal administration will assign 924 thousand dollars and the local government will pair it up with 430 thousand more, to have a total of 1,354,000 dollars, monies that will be used for the government's official vehicles that work with Compressed Natural Gas (CNG).

"To make adjustments to the fuel station, making it a new and larger storage tank," Congressman Henry Cuellar, who lobbied for the federal funds, pointed out.

In addition to the two unites that will serve as a dispensary and a special tower, all within the CNG recharge system. With part of the budget they are also thinking about buying two heavy pieces of equipment based on compressed natural gas, to service some of the local departments such as public works.

The local government has invested several years and many millions, a large part of them from federal funds, like this one, to change the heavy machinery fleet to the compressed natural gas system.

This would also include their service stations to recharge all their vehicles, and El Metro public transportation buses as well.

The unstable prices of gas and diesel have triggered the local government's annual budget considerably in the last years; therefore they are more inclined to use this type of fuel, which is cheaper, and healthier for the environment and the entire community.
