LAREDO, TEXAS. - With an investment of $8 million, the inauguration of the golf course took place yesterday. Robert Tren Jones II, a nationally recognized designer, made the design.

Assistant city manager Horacio de Leon, confirmed that the golf course is open to the public today but the clubhouse will not be finished until February 2013.

The 18-hole course located in an area of 270 acres called The Islitas, close to Mines Road, was named after Max A. Mandel in honor of his memory and the donation of land that his family donated.

Mandel was a prominent businessman and banker who worked to bring business and develop the economy of the two Laredos.

The family of the late businessman decided to donate the land needed for this project.

The council approved a contract with the Foresight Golf company from Boerne, Texas that took care of the operations of the golf course, including a clubhouse, a store and a restaurant.

City officials hope the opening of this golf course, which will be the third in Laredo, will help attract more investment and business to the city.
