The school districts in Laredo will have different celebrations for Martin Luther King Day.

LAREDO, TX.- The school districts of Laredo will have different celebrations for Martin Luther King Day. United Independent School District will not have classes, while the Laredo Independent School District will have different events.

The almost 40 thousand students from the different schools at UISD will stay home this Monday and will go back to their regular schedule on Tuesday.

While the LISSD students will have several activities at the different schools, to remember the importance of Dr. King's fight against racism and his work to promote equal rights.

At Ryan elementary Dr. Diana Linn, education professor at Texas A&M International University will talk about King's impact on civil rights, and the students will recite the famous speech of the civil rights leader, "I have a dream".

The pre-kinder children at J.C. Martin elementary will hoist the flag at a ceremony at 9:00 am.

At Dovalina schools the students will do several readings and transmit the videos of Dr. Luther King.

Both at LISD and UISD the tax collection offices will work at their regular hours.

At all the LISD schools teachers have different activities prepared for the students, to teach them the importance of civil rights, and Dr. King's contribution to preserve them.

To take advantage of the day off, the UISD teachers will attend different training sessions.
