LAREDO, Tx.- Border Patrol agents seized a cargo of 301 pounds of marijuana that was abandoned by a group of "burreros" at the bank of the río Bravo.

Reports indicate that federal agents were doing a routine check near Camino a las Minas, when they detected several persons carrying some bundles near the river.

When subjects realized they were seen by immigration officials, they dropped the bundles and ran towards the river to swim to the Mexican side.

Authorities confiscated several packages with a street value of 241,000 dollars.

The case was turned over to the DEA in order to continue with investigations.

    So 300 lbs was found while a couple of tons made it over the border. I am sick of them inflating their numbers to make it seem like it is some worthwhile endeavor.

    300 lbs whole sale might equate to 150 grand and that is pushing it. That could have been 100 - 150 grand of taxable income that provided legitimate taxpaying jobs to growers, transporters, and entrepreneurs.

    Legalization would save money just from the amount of people going to emergency rooms from gunshot wounds associated with the marijuana black market.

    Plus it costs 33,000 dollars to house an inmate per year. Most drug offenses result in a 5-7 year sentence.

    Thats 150,000 dollars spent putting a human in a cage when it could go towards education, roads, grants etc.

    What a waste of time and effort to try and stop what, apparently, what a lot of people want.

    Even with the 6 tons caught this month a Laredo, I can still go to my corner convenience store and get anything I want within about 2 hours.

    I mean anything. $241,000 for 301 lbs. of brick weed? And the reporter didn't question that number? You guys are losing your creditability.
