Webb County needs the residents of the colonias to help them by donating the land needed to pave the streets.

County Commissioner Tijerina reviews the paving plans for the colonias on highway 359.

"Without this requirement we can't do anything, our hands our tied, we need the city to give us 10 feet on each side of the road in order to comply with the state's regulations," Rosaura "Wawi" Tijerina said.

The County Commissioner for Precinct Two also mentioned that in the area of highway 359 most of the colonias already complied with giving the right of way, as the state requires.

"Wet need for the residents of the colonias on highway 59 to help us out so we can speed up the project to pave the roads in this area," Tijerina pointed out.

On highway 359 the D5 Acres colonia was just paved, in Los Altos they already have 99 percent of the right of way and in a few days they will begin the paving works.

In the Old Milwaukee area the residents have already donated 100 percent of the right of way and the paving projects will start in April; in San Carlos I the project will begin in June and in San Enrique by October.

At Ranchitos 359 the paving project should start by January of next year. Tijerina said that the project's plans from Tanquecitos I and II are already being reviewed by the Texas Department of Transportation, who is in charge of approving the project.

"We are still pending the authorization of the right of way in Pueblo Nuevo, where we will put a different type of pavement," Tijerina explained.

"Wawi" Tijerina mentioned that if only one person in the colonia refuses to donate the part the land to grant the right of way, everyone else is affected, because the county is unable to work.

"We are just waiting for the residents of the colonias on highway 59 so they can soon have paved roads. At Los Centenarios we already have 90 percent of the right of way, but in Los Arcos we only have two percent," Tijerina stated.
