Martin High School Students Come Together to Help Haiti

LAREDO, TX.- As a response to a civic duty lesson, the students at Martin High School got together to raise funds for the victims of the earthquake in Haiti.

Cristina Segura, teacher of government at Martin High, recently gave her students a civic duty lesson, in which she taught them that it everyone's duty to give without expecting anything in return.

To demonstrate that they learned their lesson well, the high school students decided to get together and raise money, and they were able to raise 500 dollars.

Students from other classrooms also joined their efforts and went all over the school to ask for donations and they collected a total of 944 dollars more, thus having a total of one thousand 444 dollars.

The students called this program "Tiger Pride Roars Worldwide", as a way to demonstrate the enthusiasm and dedication they had to collect the funds for the Haiti victims.

"The students demonstrated that they have compassion for the hurt of others and they discovered that it is nice and rewarding to comply with their civic responsibilities of helping a good cause," Cristina Segura mentioned.

Francisco Ramirez, member of the Salvation Army board of directors in Laredo, officially received the donation at Martin High School.

Present at the creemony where the monies were delivered were Leslie Villanueva, Francisco Ramírez, Valeria Escobar, Cristina Segura, Mario Sánchez, Roxy Quintero, Griselda Santos, Javier Vasquez and the High School's Director, Oscar Pérez.
