LAREDO, Tx.- Next Saturday the 13th, the Police Department will have a special recruiting event for their scouting program.

The Police Department's spokesman, Joe Baeza, also mentioned that the event will be held at the Police headquarters, located on 4712 Maher, starting at 3:00 pm.

"Applications will be available at the program after a short presentation, parents are invited to participate but are asked not to bring very young children," Baeza emphasized.

The recruitment focuses on boys and girls from the ages of 14 to 18, and applicants must have their parents' consent, they must be enrolled in a school and be passing all their classes.

After filling out an application, a background check will be performed, and if approved, they will be scheduled for an interview.

The program is sponsored by the Boy Scouts of America and the International Association of Chiefs of Police and National Sheriffs' Association.

The program teaches participants subjects such as accident investigations, arrest operations and raids, bomb investigations, searches, crime prevention, crime scene investigations, domestic violence, drunk driving cases, negotiations with kidnappers and even first aid.
