The primary focus of these meetings was related to law enforcement and security issues.

"We want to make sure we have the necessary resources in order to have more peaceful neighborhoods, as well as more police and more equipment," Mayor Raul Salinas informed.

Salinas, Aldermen Johnny Rendón and Héctor García, and also City Manager Carlos Villarreal, met with officials of the United States Department of Justice to request more security.

"We notify you that the border is the first line of defense in the nation and therefore it must be secured and well protected, I believe we can receive help because Vice President Joe Biden acknowledged the need for more security in the southern border," he affirmed.

There was also a work meeting held with representatives of the Department of Homeland Security, asking for resources to improve police and fire departments, both in staff and equipment.

Mayor Salinas mentioned that there was also a meeting with officials of the Department of Health and Human Services to ask for resources and more comprehensive health programs for Laredo.

The following meetings will be with White House officials, the State Department, Energy Department, Corps of Military Engineering and Commerce.
