Hoop it up for Hunger

LAREDO, Tx.- A Basketball Festival will be held live tomorrow Saturday July 24th in the TAMIU gymnasium where the "Hoop It Up For Hunger" tournament will be played," where all the proceeds will be donated to the South Texas Food Bank.

Commissioners Frank Sciaraffa and Jerry Garza were the organizers of this family event, in an effort to offer support to those who need it most, where members of the legal force, elected officials and the media will face each other in a game of basketball.

"We hope people will show up, it will be alot of fun for families, it is a special effort to collect funds to help the needy, we also would like to recognize the hard work the South Texas Food Bank has offered in these dificult days," Sciaraffa expressed.

Six teams will participate, that include Firefighters, Border Patrol, the Sheriff's Department, Police, elected officials and the media.

The first game will take place at 11:00 am, where Firefighters will face the Broder Patrol, at 12:00 local elected officials will play against the media and at 1:00 pm the Sheriff's Department will play against the Police.

Following the elimination round the championship game will be played at 3:00 pm.

"Our goal is to collect 10,000 dollars. We have held this basketball tournament for 3 years now, the first years the money was donated for scholarships, this year it will be doanted to the Food Bank," he informed.

The entrance fee for adults is 3 dollars and for children it is free.
